Q

What happens during the teenage years (in relation to sexuality?)

A

These are the years when we experience a great deal of change- not just our bodies, but also our emotions and thoughts go through changes. This is the time when our bodies change in order that we can… umm… reproduce. Unlike many other species, however, humans engage in sexual activity even when we do not want to have a baby.

9
Q

How can peer pressure negatively and positively affect a teen (in regards to sexuality)?

A

Negatively, a teen may feel the need to pretend to be sexually active, or actually become sexually active before they feel ready, so that they can ‘belong.’
Positively, if your friend and peers have a positive attitude towards sex and make mature decisions regarding sex, you are likely to follow that. It is better to wait until you have a steady relationship with a partner, before having sex.

Q

Discuss cultures in which males are valued more than females.

A

Norms will develop that will show the way each group is valued. Men will be seen as more important, get better education than women ( >:0 R U D E), and have better jobs, and in some cultures be the only people who are educated or who may hold jobs. It is possible that in such a culture, abuse of women, sexual abuse and rape could be considered as being acceptable practices. (WHAT IN THE HOLY MOTHER OF TUBBO)

Social pressure is the pressures that come from a persons’s family, community, culture, and peers. Each one of these groups would like the teenager to conform to their norms and values. This can cause a great deal of pressure for the teen.

19
Q

What can also add additional pressure to social pressure?

A

Media.

20
Q

How can the media affect a teenager and their sexuality?

A

The media created a sense of what teenagers should look like and behave. If the view the media has of the ‘ideal teen’ or ‘acceptable behaviour’ is different from what the teenager believes, conflict and develop. Media can make teens question their appearance, values, the the norms in their culture. In all these instances, a teen has to work to develop their own sense values while coming to terms with a sexual identity that is being formed.

21
Q

How can media negatively and positively affect a teenager in regards to sex and their sexuality?

A

Media representations of sex and sexuality can be a negative influence on teenage sexual decision-making if the norms and values create conflict. The media can also play a positive role by presenting information on sexuality and responsible sexual behaviour.

22
Q

How can television shows be confusing for teens?

A

The plot line doesn’t make sense at all?? And happy endings aren’t realistic?? Jk jk lmao…
