What is our self-image?
It is how we see ourselves, in correlation to our abilities, how we look, our personality and how we think others see us.
What is our self-concept?
How we see and feel about ourselves. It is who we know we really are. We know our self-worth and we value ourselves for we are. E.g, we may feel we aren’t academic, but we know that we do not have to feel inferior because of that.
What is motivation/self-motivation?
The reason why we do something. The focus that keeps pushing you to go on. It is an internal drive to keep moving forward and achieve something in particular. Motivation can be positive or negative.
Name the factors that influence self-concepts formation and self-motivation.
The media, our environment, our friends and peers, our family, our culture, our religion and our community.

How can media negatively (or positively) affect a person?
Some media can form unhealthy opinions in us through completely unrealistic messages, such as people who are rich, always looking beautiful and most of the time very thin. Media can also be positive however by giving us useful information.
What is our environment?
Everything around us. Where we live, work, play, go to school- they all have an influence on our self-concept and self-motivation. This can be both positive and negative.
Why are friends so important to teens?
We sometimes feel that they are the one people who understand us and what we feel. Our peers also play important roles I our lives, as we share our identity and self-concept based on our peer group.

A loving caring family will have a positive influence on our self-concept formation. Teenagers from homes like this are more likely to feel good about themselves. They will also be self-motivated ton achieve and please their families.
On the other hand, teens from a home where there is fighting, abuse or substance abuse, are more likely to have a low self-concept and may lack self-motivation was they cannot see a future beyond their situation.
