Effective group work and presentations Flashcards
What makes group work effective? Why or how?
- Plan ahead
- Make decisions in a fair manner that includes all members of the group
- Use teamwork skills
- Everyone has to do work, and work together
- Contribution should be equal. Don’t leave one person to do everything
- Put effort in!
What is visual effectiveness in terms of style?
Should be clean and not cluttered, with aesthetically pleasing use of colour and images. There are different styles, such as modern, vintage, etc.
What is visual effectiveness in terms of colour?
Colours that catch the eye and stand out against the background, without clashing. Make sure that if you are colouring a font, it is easy to read and not too similar a tone to the background. All colours must match and be aesthetically pleasing. Sometimes it’s nice to have a colour theme.
What is visual effectiveness in terms of fonts?
Make sure your font suits your style- for example if your chosen style is delicate and light, don’t use a heavy, bold font. Make sure your font stands out without clashing, and is legible.
What is visual effectiveness in terms of size?
Fonts should be big enough to read, without making it cluttered. Should be easy to read. Other elements of your work should be sized according to your opinion on what looks best, but its often safest to get a second opinion too.
What is visual effectiveness in terms of images?
Images in presentations should have captions (in most instances) and relate to the presentation. Icons and clip art don’t necessarily need captions, but must be visually appealing and match the theme and style of the rest of the presentation. Be careful not to add cheesy clip art to your presentation. ( <= big pet peeve of mine, omgosh)
Name the do’s and don’t’s of effective group work and presentations.
Do’s:
- Communicate your ideas and thoughts
- Work together towards a common goal
- Plan ahead
- Make sure you make decisions fairly, using a system of voting for example.
Don’t’s:
- Let one person do all the work.
- Hand in your work late.
- Be negative (when possible, we all have our bad days :] )
- Argue. Try to come to agreements without getting all passive-aggressive.
