What is conjugation?
When 2 unicellular organisms transfer/exchange genetic material.
What is hemaphrodites?
when organisms produce male and female gametes in the same individual.
ex. earthworms, sponges, barnicles
What are separate sexes?
When there are separate male and female cones on the same plant.
When separate male and female flowers are on the same plant.
When separate male and female flowers are on separate plants.
What is external fertilization?
when sperm and eggs unite outside of the body.
ex. salmon
What is internal fertilization?
When sperm and eggs meet inside of female.
ex. humans
What are 3 advantages to sexual reproduction?
1) genetically different from parents
2) adapts to different environments
3) passes strong genes to offspring
What are 2 disadvantages to sexual reproduction?
1) two parents needed
2) slower to develop
What are the 6 types of sexual reproduction?
