What are the four phases of the sexual response cycle?
- Desire
- Excitement
- Orgasm
- Resolution
(this is a normal, healthy cycle)
What are the components of desire?
- Sexual drive (biological, genital sensations, thoughts…)
- Motivation (psychological…)
- Wish fufillment (social, hoping/expectations for sex…)
What are the components of excitement?
arousal
several minutes to hours, nipples harden, erection/vaginal lubrication…
What are the physiological processes of the excitement phase?
- Vasodilation/constriction
- Mytonia
How long do orgasms last?
3-25 seconds
release of sexual tension, rhythmic muscle contraction
How long does resolution take?
if there was an orgasm, resolution is rapid
if not, can take 2-6 hours
males need longer then females, who have no refractory period
When do you make dx of male hypoactive sexual desire disorder?
6mo+ of absent or deficient sexual fantasies and desire
(assuming no extenuating circumstances (ex. spouse recently passed))
What qualifies a woman for Female sexual interest/arousal disorder?
at least 3 of the following for 6mo+
How do you dx ED?
at least 1 of the following sx on almost all occasions of sexual activity for 6 mo
- difficulty obtaining an erection
- difficulty maintaining an erection until completion of sexual activity
- marked decrease in erectile rigidity
What is female orgasmic disorder?
persistent or recurrent delay in/absence of orgasm for 6 mo
What is delayed ejaculation?
at least one of the following for 6mo:
- marked delay in ejaculation
- marked infrequency or absence of ejaculation
When does ejaculation occur in premature ejaculation?
within 1 minute (over course of 6mo)

What is the difference between sexual sadism and sexual masochism?
sexual sadism - harm to others
sexual masochism - harm to self
What is it called when a person exposes their genitals to unsuspecting strangers?
exhibitonism
