What is a suspect?
Someone that police would have to caution in order to ask them questions. Based on known facts.
What is an interview?
The questioning of a person regarding their involvement or suspected involvement in a criminal offence.
When interviewing what is PEACE?
Planning and preparation. Engage and explain. Account clarification and challenge. Closure. Evaluation.
What is a SIGNIFICANT STATEMENT?
One which appears capable of being used in evidence against the suspect, in particular a direct admission of guilt or failure or refusal to answer a question or answer satisfactory.
What is a SPECIAL WARNING?
Should be given where a suspect fails to account for incriminating fibers; marks; substances or objects.
What is HEARSAY evidence?
Evidence of what a witness heard another person say but it is not known if this is fact.
What is DOCUMENTARY evidence?
Produced for examination by the court as an item of real evidence or to prove that a document exists.
What is ORAL evidence?
Given when a witness relates their experience directly to the court.
