Explain the Dimension of Powerdistance
relates to the acceptance of unequal power distribution by the people “at the bottom”, in the inferior position.
high acceptance= hierachry + submission Japan
low acceptance= cooperation + team Germany
Explain the Dimension of Uncertainty Aviodance
relates to the degree of feeling threatend by the uncertainty and what measures are taken to avoid it
high aviodance = planning Germany
low aviodance= flexible, Mexico
Explain the Dimension of Individualism /vs. Collectivism
the degree of which people take care and focus in themselves and their imidiate family or take the broader familiy and society into consideration.
high individualism= Germany, US
low individualism= Japan, Russia
Explain the Dimension of Masculinity /vs. Femininity
Not based on gender but the traditionally assoziated values to them,
Masc. = Men shop for cars - Women for food
Fem. = Both shop Both
Mas. = Germany, US Fem. = Arab, Russia
(Because family value is considered fem.)
Explain the Dimension of Long-term /vs. Short-term orientation
relates to the preferance of planning ahead and preserving the past vs. living in the moment
Longterm= good&evil are relativ, marrige pragmatic, “Guanxi” + Germany, Japan
Shortterm= good&evil absolut, Marrige for love, + Mexico, US
Explain the Dimension of Indulgence /vs. Restraint
relates to the degree of giving into temptation and how it is exepted.
high restraint= Japan, Germany
low restraint= Mexico, US
What is Guanix?
The concept of Guanix often found in long-term oriented cultures
interpersonal relationships are more than friendships, linked to continued exchange of favors - reciprocal obligation
based on common social identies (birthplace/school) +
willingness to ask and give favors
longterm balance sheet accepted and expected, not frowned apon
