Explain the difference between stereotypes and prejudices

A

Stereotypes are mental shortcuts, that can be unconscious but generally should come with reflection and have a function.

Prejudices are stereotypes that lack critical reflection

What are unconscious biases and how can they be measured

A

aka implicit bias, are social stereotypes and prejudices about groups of people that individuals form / have outside their conscious awareness.

  • often not complying with core values
  • happens because of desire to categorize social worlds
  • can be triggered (e.g. working under pressure)

What is the cultural quotient

A

CQ is a prediction measurement of a person’s capability to adapt while interacting with others from different cultural regions = to relate and work effectively across cultures

What are the four capabilities of the cultural quotient?

A
  1. Drive (motivation)
    interest and confidence level at functioning effective in cultural setting
  2. Knowledge (cognition)
    know how cultures are similar / different
  3. Strategy (meta-cognition)
    how to make sense of cultural diverse experiences #W-curve
  4. Action (behavior)
    capability to adapt behavior to different cultures #no roleplay, experience!
