Session 4 Flashcards
What is construct validity?
The degree to which a test measures what it claims to be measuring.
Explain the two-step procedure of DSM PD diagnosis.
- Does patient meet the general criteria for PD (enduring pattern of inner experiences and behavior that deviates from cultural expectations; manifested in 2+ areas: cognition, affect, interpersonal functioning and impulse control)
- Check for the specific criteria of each PD
Criteria of PDs in the DSM (characteristics)
- Dichotomous and categorical (PD or no PD)
- Polythetic (no criterion is required)
- All criteria have the same weight
- Heterogeneity within diagnoses
Five-factor model + its 5 domains
A dimensional model of personality which consists of five broad, higher order dimensions or
domains of personality (Neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness)
What is the most studied operationalization of the FFM?
The NEO-PI-R.
Which two key concepts does the Alternative Model of the DMS-5 (AMPD) integrate?
A. The level of personality functioning
B. A dimensional model of 25 personality traits based on 5 domains (Neg. affectivity, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, psychoticism)
In AMPD it’s assumed that PDs are characterized by problems in … and …
self-functioning (identity and self-direction), interpersonal functioning (empathy and intimacy)
What does the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) measure?
The 5 domains based on the FFM and 25 maladaptive negative traits of personality of the DSM-5 AMP
What does the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 PD (SCIP-5-PD) assess?
The 3 clusters (A, B, C) (semi-structured interview)
What does the Semi-Structured Interview for Personality Functioning DSM-5 (STiP-5.1) measure?
The level of personality functioning according to the AMPD
What is the inherent risk of self-report instruments for PD diagnosis?
PDs are ego-syntonic and self-reports are susceptible to be biased.
Which self-report measure is based on the Big Five/FFM?
The NEO-Personality Inventory - Revised (NEO-PI-R)
Which self-report measure is based on 18 maladaptive schemas?
The Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ)
Which self-report measure is one of the most used, yet is prone to interpretation bias?
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-RF (MMPI-2-RF)
Who should be assessed for PD?
Clinicians should rely on informants/clinician-rated methods (patient might be unreliable)
