Q

What is cranial nerve 7? what is it’s function? where does it leave the skull?

A
  • facial nerve has 5 branches T, Z, B, M, C - motor and sensory and parasympathetic
  • supplies muscles of facial expression -supplies the stapedius muscle

PS -supplies lacrimal, submandibular and sublingual glands

  • supplies gustation to the anterior 2/3 of the tongue

Q

What is cranial nerve 9? what is it’s function? where does it leave the skull?

A
  • glossopharyngeal - motor, sensory and parasympathetic
  • somatic motor - stylopharyngeus
  • visceral motor - parotid gland
  • somatic sensory - skin of external ear
  • visceral sensory - posterior 1/3 of tongue, pharynx, and Eustachian tube, carotid body and sinus -afferent gag reflex fibres

  • somatic motor - muscles of the pharynx and larynx (swallowing and speech)
  • visceral motor - viscera of the thoracic and abdominal cavities
  • somatic sensory - external ear

Q

What is cranial nerve 11? what is it’s function? where does it leave the skull?

A

-Accessory nerve - motor -supplies motor innervation to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius -sends fibres through the foramen magnum which then leaves through the jugular foramen

16
Q

Which cranial nerves arise from the mid-brain?

A

trochlear

17
Q

Where does the occulomotor nerve arise from?

A

mid-brain pontine junction

18
Q

What cranial nerves arise from the pons?

A

Trigeminal

19
Q

What arrises from the pontine medullary junction?

A

Abducens, Facial and Vestibulochochlear

20
Q

what cranial nerves arise from the medulla?

A

glossopharyngeal, vagus, hypoglossol and accessory

21
Q

The superior and inferior colliculus make up the what of the midbrain?

A

tectum

22
Q

What is the inferior colliculi involved in?
What are it’s connections?

A

involved in auditory stimuli reflexes - turning towards a sound
recievs inputs from the cochlear nuclei
sends fibres to the medial genticulate body via the inferior brachium
