Ser - Examples
Identity / Profession – Who or what someone is - Soy profesora. (I am a teacher.). Él es ingeniero. (He is an engineer.)
Physical or Personality Traits – Inherent characteristics - Ella es alta y simpática. (She is tall and nice.) El coche es rojo. (The car is red.)
Origin and Nationality – Where someone or something is from - Soy de México. (I am from Mexico.) Este vino es de España. (This wine is from Spain.)
Time, Dates, and Events - Hoy es lunes. (Today is Monday.) La reunión es a las 3 de la tarde. (The meeting is at 3 PM. El concierto es en el estadio. (The concert is in the stadium.)
Possession - El libro es de Juan. (The book is Juan’s.)
Relationships - Ellos son mis padres. (They are my parents.)
Estar - Examples
Location (Temporary or Permanent) – Where something or someone is - Madrid está en España. (Madrid is in Spain. Mi teléfono está en la mesa. (My phone is on the table.)
Emotions / Feelings – Temporary states - Estoy feliz hoy. (I am happy today.) Ella está cansada. (She is tired.)
Conditions / Temporary States – Health, weather, or temporary situations - El café está caliente. (The coffee is hot.) Estoy enfermo. (I am sick.) Está nublado hoy. (It is cloudy today.)
Actions in Progress (Present Progressive – “-ing” Form) - Estoy estudiando. (I am studying.) - Ellos están trabajando. (They are working.)
