Q

What is simultaneous movement?

A
  • all body parts move at same time to produce force
  • generally used to produce accuracy, some activities require this to attain max. power

Eg. A putt in golf, soccer pass

Q

Summation of force / momentum

A

To sequentially produce max force effectively, following principles need to be applied:

  1. Stronger & larger muscles of thighs and trunks move first followed by smaller &a faster muscles
  2. Sequentially accelerates each body part, optimum momentum passes from one body part to the next
  3. Each body part should be stable so next body part accelerates around a stable base to transfer momentum
  4. Pause as many body parts as possible, so force can be applied over max possible time
  5. Follow through is important to prevent deceleration at last segment and safe indulgence of force
  6. Ensure all forces are directed towards target

Q

What is sequential movement?

A
  • Body parts move in a sequence to produce force
  • larger muscles to smaller muscles
  • generally used to produce max. force in whole body actions such as throwing, kicking

Eg. Baseball pitcher, kicking in rugby

Q

How to get accuracy

A

Flattening the arc- increase contact time with ball

  • create a flat line motion, allows large opportunity to make contact with ball in direction of travel
  • follow throughCurved arc is less accurate

Eg. Batter plays a drive in cricket-create flattened arc of cricket bat by:

- shift of body weight forward
- rotate body prior to moment of contact
- bat moves in straight line towards target

Q

Why is it important to use all joints and in order?

A

It is more efficient
Gain more power
It makes the outcome more accurate
So optimum momentum passes from one body part to the next
