Linear Motion Flashcards
What is distance?
What is displacement?
Distance is how much ground is covered - one point to another
Displacement is how far you finished from the start position
What is speed? How is it calculated?
Speed is moving from one point to another in the fastest possible time
Distance travelled / time taken
What is velocity? How is it calculated?
Speed in a given direction
Displacement / time taken
What is acceleration?
Types of acceleration
How is it calculated?
Rate at which the object changes with respect to time
+ acceleration - increase velocity
- acceleration - decrease velocity
Acceleration due to gravity - natural force that makes object go downwards at rate of -9.8m/s
Uniform acceleration - an object accelerates at a constant rate
Change in velocity / time
What is instantaneous speed?
Speed of an object that is constantly changing
What is linear motion?
The path of an object that travels in a straight or curved line
