Q

Transitions

A

Three types of transitions
To the side (usually from tadasana)-most accessible
Stepping back-pretty accessible
Stepping forward-more challenging

Stepping back is more accessible than stepping forward because:

One needs more hip mobility
Core strength issues
Different body proportions
Hand and wrist issues

Adding more points to the floor (like one hand, both hands) makes transitions easier

Q

Transition tools

A

Stabilizing cues

Done proactively, meaning before the tranistion with a possible risk factor

Foundation cues (rooting through a body part touching the floor)
squeezing the legs together (for neutral poses)
Engaging the core (to protect the lower back)

Threads and intermissions

Thread: A series of linked postures, commonly used in a vinyasa style class. For best practices, a thread that links standing postures should link postures with similar foundations and actions at the hip.

Intermission: Optional poses (backbends, hand balances, etc) between the threads that help support the journey to the peak pose. The intermissions will also build in intensity with each subsequent round.
