Sepsis 6 Flashcards
Take 3 for sepsis
Take blood cultures
Take blood lactate
Measure urine output
Give 3 for sepsis
Give O2
Give IV fluids
Give IV antibiotics
What is elevated blood lactate a marker of
Generalised hypo perfusion, septic shock
No enough O2 is getting to tissues
What is low urine output a marker of in sepsis
Renal dysfunction
Sats aim for normal patient
94-98%
Sats aim for COPD patient
88-92%
When is septic shock diagnosed
Hypoperfusion persistes after IV fluid challenge
Or
Having serum lactate >2mmol/l
How much fluids to give?
30ml/kg fluid
How quickly should you administer Abx?
<1hr
Which abx should you administer?
Initially broad spectrum
Then according to microbiological culture results
What 3 components make up a qSOFA score/
Hypotension <100mmHg
Altered mental status
Tachypnoea RR>22/min
What is qSOFA score
A bedside prompt that may identify patients with suspected infection who are at greater risk for a poor outcome outside the intensive care unit (ICU).
What qSOFA score suggests greater risk of poorer outcomes
2 or more
