What are finite verbs
Finite verb forms show tense, person and number
What are examples of finite verbs
The go, goes and went in
I went
You go
She goes
What are non-finite verbs
Non-finite verb forms do not show tense, person or number
What are some examples of non-finite verbs
Going, gone
What is a phrase
Has no verb and no subject (eg. inside the house)
What is a clause
Has a verb and subject (eg. I walk)
What is a main clause
A main clause acts as a complete sentence (eg. The dog is my friend)
What is a subordinate clause
A subordinate clause cannot stand on its own — its not a full sentence. It needs another clause to complete its meaning. A subordinating clause will often begin with a conjunction which is not fanboys. (Eg. After the boy went to to school.)

What are the different types of sentences
Simple, compound and complex sentences.
What is a simple sentence
Has only one clause/ one idea (eg. I went to school)
What is a compound sentence
Two main clauses joined by a co-ordinating conjunction (eg. I went swimming and then i slept)
What is a complex sentence
Contains main and a subordinate clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction
