Simple Sentences
Have one independent clause. They make sense on their own and have a subject and a predicate. eg. John went home.
Compound Sentences
Has two or more independent clauses together
Complex Sentences
Complex Sentences have ONE independent clause and at LEAST one dependent clause. And it always has a subordinate conjunction.
Compound-Complex Sentences
Has two independent clauses linked by conjunction and a dependent clause.
Minor Sentences
An incomplete sentence that still makes sense without all the necessary information- no verb.
Predicate
The part of a sentence or clause containing a verb and stating something about the subject (e.g. went home in John went home ).
The Subject
A noun or noun phrase functioning as one of the main components of a clause, being the element about which the rest of the clause is predicated.
