What does bilabial mean
made by the lip positions (not what question asks but eg. m,w,b,p)
What does velar mean?
It’s made right at the back of your mouth (g,k,ŋ)
What does alveolar mean?
It’s when the tongue is doing something/positioned by the ridge that’s right by your teeth (further inside mouth than out). (eg. n,z,d,t)
What’s labiodental?
f-boy face. (upper teeth touching lower lip). (eg. v,f)
what’s dental?
tongue touching upper teeth. (θ, ð)
What’s palatial
It’s when the main part of the tongue is by the hard roof part of your mouth
What’s a glotal?
it’s formed in a glotal place (obvs). The bit that’s in your throat. (one spot in vocal chords)
What makes something plosive?
Bring parts of the mouth together to obstruct air flow.
What makes something fricative?
air flow passed through a steady stream
What makes something africate?
a plosive followed by a fricative (eg.ʤ)
What make something nasal?
air coming out of nose (eg.m)
What makes something lateral?
air flows down the side of your mouth (eg. l)
