Sensory Pathway Notes Flashcards
tracts that carry impulses to the sensory areas of the cerebral cortex or other centres
ascending tracts
ascending tracts consist of
spinothalamic tracts and dorsal column
transmits crude touch and pressure as well as the itch and tickle sensations
ventral (anterior) spinothalamic tract
pathway formed from the proximal end of small unmyelinated and poorly myelinated fibers in peripheral nerves, which enter at the lateral aspect of the dorsal horn and ascend and descend up to four segments, and terminate in Rexed’s laminae
lissauer’s tract
tract transmits pain and thermoceptive sensations
lateral spinothalamic tract
second order neuron of lateral spinothalamic tract terminate where
type C fibers which carry slow pain terminate at the following areas the reticular formation the nonspecific thalamic nuclei (specially the intralaminar nuclei)
ventral (anterior) spinothalamic tract terminate at which lamina in spinal cord
terminate at the main sensory nucleus in laminae II,III and V of the dorsal horn gray matter
ventral (anterior) spinothalamic tract consist of
consists mainly of type A-delta nerve fibers and some C nerve fibers
lateral spinothalamic tract consist of
type A delta nerve fiber (for fast pain and cold) and type C fibers (for slow pain & heat)
type a delta fibres of lateral spinothalamic tract synapses with what at the first order neuron
terminate at laminae I and V of the dorsal horn
type c fibres of lateral spinothalamic tract synapses with what at the first order neuron
substantia gelatinosa of rolandi (SGR) in laminae II and III of the dorsal horn
cortisol lesions are characterised by
inability to localize the side of stimulus loss of two point discrimination
