Sensation and Perception Flashcards
It is a mental process that detects physical energy emitted or reflected by physical objects.
Sensation
Actual experience of the world. It is the process by which the
brain interprets and organizes information received by the sense organs.
Perception
neurological disorder characterized by the inability to recognize faces.
prosopagnosia
divides the line between what energy can be detected or not
Thresholds
The process of becoming more sensitive to stimulation
sensitization
is the sharpness of vision or the ability to discriminate usual details
Visual Acuity
Holds that color vision is made possible by three types of cones,
some of which respond to red light, some to green, and others to blue.
TRICHROMATIC THEORY
Holds that there are three types of color receptors, but they are not theorized to be red, green, and blue.
OPPONENT-PROCESS THEORY
determined by its frequency (number of cycles per second as expressed in H2 or unit hertz)
Pitch
is the sense that gives us information about the location of our body parts
Kinesthetic
gives us information about our body
position, movement, and acceleration
Vestibular Sense
a sensation that is found in the visceral organs such as the stomach, intestines, internal sex organs, lungs, throat, and heart.
Organic Sensation
The ability to perceive our surroundings through the light that
enters our eyes.
Visual Perception
Perceptions shift between the two-figure ground patterns.
Figure-Ground Perception
To perceive familiar objects as having a constant form when viewed at different angles.
Shape Constancy
