Rosch et al. (1976) studied basic-level categories. What did they find? What are the things that suggest basic-level categories have special properties?

EXAMPLE: DOG

  • superordinate - animal (difficult to describe)
  • basic level - dog (usual level, good balance)
  • subordinate level - rottweiler (more difficult to give distinct descriptions)
