Self report techniques
Any method in which a person is asked to state or explain their own feelings, opinions, behaviours, experiences related to a given topic.
Questionnaire
A set of written questions/ items used to assess a persons thoughts and/ or experiences
Interviews
A ‘live’ encounter (face-to-face, video call or phone) where the interviewer asks a set of questions to assess a participant’s
thoughts ad/or experiences.
Structured Interviews
-Pre-determined set of questions asked in a fixed order.
-Similar to a questionnaire but conducted face-to face (or call) in real-time.
-Interviewer asks question and waits for response before moving on.
Unstructured Interviews
-Works like a conversation, interactions are free-flowing.
-No set questions but will have a general aim that a certain topic is discussed.
-Interviewee is encouraged to expand and elaborate their answers as prompted by the interviewer.
Semi-structured Interviews
-List of questions worked out in advance but also involve follow-up questions
when appropriate.
-Similar to a job interview

-Allow participants to explain their views and make extra comments

-Give a restricted choice of answers and the participants cannot add any details
