Legal document produced by BPS that instructs psychologists in the UK about what behaviour is and is not acceptable when dealing with participants

Ethical principles : respect
-For dignity: recognised the worth of all human beings, regardless of perceived or real differences in social status, gender etc.
-Consider: privacy, respect, consent etc
Ethical Principles : Competence
-Ability to provide specific services to a professional standard
-Consider: any limitations, appropriate skills needed
Ethical Principles : Responsibility
-Must accept appropriate responsibility for what is in their control, power, or management
-Consider: professional accountability, respect for welfare of human
Ethical Principles: Integrity
-Requires setting self-interest to one side and being objective to one’s behaviour professionally
-Consider: fairness, addressing misconduct
Informed consent
Telling participants the true aim of a study and what is going to happen, so they can make an informed decision about participating.
They should be aware of any potential risks or benefits
