Why are questionnaires always considered structured?
Because the questions have to be pre-determined.
What are the different types of interview?
Structured or unstructured.
What is a generic strength of self-report techniques?
Allow access to what people think, feel and their experiences and attitudes.
What is a key issue with self-report techniques in general?
Social desirability bias - distorting the way in which an individual answers questions to present themselves in a better light.
Give a limitation specific to questionnaires.
Can only be completed that can read and write and have the time to fill them in. Biased sample - less external validity.
Main strength of structured interviews and questionnaires?
Standardised (comparability).
What is the key issue with interviews?
Interviewer bias - the effect of an interviewer’s expectations, communicated unconsciously, on a respondent’s behaviour.
