Experimental method Flashcards
If you dont know lab and field by now…
youre screwed
Why are natural and quasi experiments not considered ‘true experiments’.
The IV is not deliberately manipulated - not possible to claim changes in DV are caused by IV.
What is a natural experiment?
Researcher does not manipulate IV but takes advantage of naturally occurring variations in the environment or population.
What is a quasi experiment?
Investigates relationships between IV and DV where the IV is a characteristic of a person.
What is the main difference between natural and quasi experiments?
The natural variable in natural experiments is usually due to an event or difference in people due to experiences.
The natural variable in quasi experiments simply exists e.g. gender, race, down syndrome etc.
