What is stress?
Stress is an interactive process whereby the body responds to an external situation or stressor.
What is a stressor?
stressors are either real or imagined environmental events that set the stage for the elicitations of the stress response. They cannot directly cause the stress response.
What happens when Thoughts and emotions combine?
the thoughts of the person and their emotions combine to determine how the stressors are ultimately perceived. In effect, the individual perception of the event determines whether an experience or situation becomes a stressor or not.
What is the stress response
norepinephrine is a neurotransmitter released from the kidneys when stimulated by the hypothalamus during a stress response. Norepinephrine acts as a fight or flight response.
Coping
the target organ activation compels the person to partake in behaviours to reduce stress such as exercise, eating, massage or relaxation activities. The person could also be compelled to partake in unhealthy stress management techniques such as the use of drugs or alcohol which are not recommended as they lead to long term further and future stress and compound the problem.
What is time management
effectively planning use of time to balance commitments and relaxation times. The ability to be organised and plan ahead of time to reduce stress and maintain calm.

the ability to obtain and make use of support networks.

Affordability- can you afford to pay support services such as a councilor.
Availability- are the people you want to support available when you need them?
Accessibility- geographic accessibility. Can you physically get the support service or person?
Accommodation- is the support service or person able to accommodate your needs? are they flexible, can they change the way they offer support, so it is easier for you? Can they understand you?
Acceptability- do you find the personal characteristics of a person acceptable? Are they easy to talk to? Are they the right age, sex, social class, and ethnicity? Do you trust them?
