The Belief that you can successfully perform a desired behavior.
State Self Confidence
The Degree of certainty that individuals have a particular moment of their ability to succeed. (More Unstable)
Trait Self confidence
The degree of certainty individuals usually have about their ability to succeed. (More Stable)
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
Expecting something to happen actually helps cause it to happen
Negative self-fulfilling prophecy
This is the psychological barrier whereby the expectation of failure leads to actual failure.

The perception of one’s ability to perform a task successfully.
What are the main premises of the self efficacy theory?
Affects an athletes choice of activities, level of effort, and persistence
It generalizes other similar skills and situations
High Self Efficacy -> are more likely to set challenging goals

Most dependable source of self-efficacy because it is based on one’s master experiences
Vicarious Experiences
Seeing others modeling (or demonstrating) a skill influences efficacy. Best understood through a 4 stage process.

Imaging oneself or others behaving in future situations can generate belief about personal efficacy/lack of efficacy.

Influences self efficacy when they are associated with aversive physiological arousal.

Emotional states, or moods, are another source of efficacy information.

The belief or perception shared by members of the team regarding the capabilities of their teammates
