Q

what is the name of the process when ice breaks off the glacier? why is this important for places where glaciers are found?

A

glacial calving

important for places where glaciers are found since they flow directly into the ocean and deposit sediment that was stored in the ice

Q

when is sediment transferred to the coastal system?

Q

what is longshore drift?

A

Sediment is moved along the beach, due to prevailing winds which alter the direction of the waves. Allowing sediment to be transported from one section of coastline to another. The
swash approaches the coast at an angle due to the prevailing winds, transferring sediment along the beach. The backwash pulls the sediment directly back down the
beach. The process repeats.
