marine processes: erosion Flashcards
what is erosion?
removal of sediment from a coastline
what is corrasion?
sand and pebbles picked up by the sea from an offshore sediment sink and hurled against a cliff at high tide
what is corrosion?
mildly acidic seawater causing alkaline rock to erode
what is wave quarrying?
breaking waves hit the cliff face exert a pressure up to 30 tonnes per m ². . The force of the breaking wave hammers the rocks surface, shaking and weakening it
what is wave quarrying similar to but why are they different
hydraulic action
but acts with significantly more pressure to directly pull away rocks from a cliff face
