Measures designed to increase the level of defense against attacks.
How many FPCONs are there and what are they?

Normal, alpha, bravo, Charlie, and delta
When does FPCON normal apply?
When a general global threat of possible terrorist activity exists and warrants a routine security posture.
When does FPCON Alpha apply?
When there is an increased general threat or possible terrorist activity which is unpredictable.
When does FPCON Bravo apply?
When an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists.
How long should FPCON alpha measures be capable of being sustained?
Indefinitely.
When does FPCON Charlie apply?
When an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist activity is likely.
When does FPCON Delta apply?
In the immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when intelligence is received that terrorist action is imminent.

The condition for defense of the United States homeland and assets abroad.
What does the DEFCON scale determine?
The posture of the military to prepare for the likelihood of war.
