What are Threshold Markings?
Parallel stripes on the ends of runways that designate the landing area.
12 ft wide by 150 ft long
What is the overrun area?
Paved or unpaved section on the end of the runways for aborting or overshooting aircraft.
What is the MA-1 series overrun barrier for?
To stop tricycle landing gear equipped aircraft not equipped with tail hooks.
What is emergency shore based recovery equipment?
Used during inflight emergencies that may require stopping of an aircraft during landing in the shortest distance possible to minimize damage to aircraft and injury to pilots and aircrew.
What are taxiways?
Paved areas for aircraft to move between parking aprons, runways and airfield services.
What is the parking apron?
The flight line.
What is the compass calibration pad?
A paved area in a magnetically quiet area where the aircraft is calibrated.
How are runways numbered?
In relation to their magnetic heading and rounded to the nearest 10 degrees.
What is used for pilots to identify an airport in VFR weather conditions?
Airfield rotating beacon
How does the airfield rotating beacon rotate?
Clockwise. 12 to 15 times per minute.
