If a TCAS threat is not sighted and is becoming a risk/distraction, what is a good course of action to deconflict?
Climb or descend to create vertical separation, whilst visually trying to acquire it.
For the SR sorties, what should the RADALT Low Height Warner (LHW) be set to after T/O?
2000ft - Check occasionally in the HUD as part of your scan to ensure you remain above the UKLFS.
What does TERPROM provide?
Predictive Ground Collision Avoidance (PGCAS)
and
Obstruction Warning and Cueing (OWC)
How must you respond to a TEPROM OWC warning (amber TERR annunciator illuminated + aural “OBSTRUCTION LEFT/AHEAD/RIGHT”)?
Must acknowledge the warning, and if the obstruction cannot be immediately identified you must carry out the required avoiding action (i.e. obstruction left = break right).
How must you react to a TERPROM PGCAS warning (red TERR annunciator illuminated + aural “PULL UP, PULL UP”)?
Must be acknowledged by immediately rolling wings level and pulling away from the ground with FULL POWER, using 4g/stick shaker.
Note - may get erroneous warnings in steep sided valleys. Acknowledge verbally with QFI but DO NOT become immune to warnings. Solo students must action “Pull Up, Pull Up” immediately.
Once the route has been loaded from the ‘brick’, what must you do to check the route in the kit?
Scale the map out to review and check the whole route is correct + compare the FMS LEGS page with the route card.
Once a route has been loaded and checked, how should the HUD/MFD be set up?
Ensure declutter 0 (nav datablock showing)
Ensure steering to the first waypoint
What must the taxy call include for your sector recce sorties?
“C/S sector recce route X, request taxy”
Describe the lost procedure
COARSAG
Clear the aircraft flight path and/or climb to ensure that you are not pointing at high ground or bad weather
Orientate - Note current heading, orientate map and use large features GROUND to MAP, then narrow down to medium sized features
Anchor over prominent feature
Reverse last heading to find a recognisable feature
Steer to Valley/Mona using the FMS
Ask ATC for a position fix or steer for Valley/Mona
Guard - Squawk emergency and contact Swanwick Mil on Gd.
