Q

What is the importance of lesson plans?

A

Lesson plans play a crucial role in the education process. They serve as a roadmap for teachers, ensuring that instruction is organized, focused, and aligned with curriculum standards. Lesson plans help maintain a structured yet flexible approach to teaching, ensuring all necessary topics are covered, by breaking down topics into manageable segments and planning each session. Additionally, lesson plans help teachers set clear, achievable goals for their students, allocate appropriate time to each topic, provides a framework for assessing student understanding and progress, and helps teachers evaluate the effectiveness of their instruction.

Q

Explain the key differences between pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy in terms of their approaches to learning and teaching?

A

Pedagogy is teacher centered learning where the teacher imparts knowledge on the student. The lesson and the curriculum is pre-determined.

Andragogy is adult centered learning. This includes self-learning and active participation in learning.

Heutagogy is a learning theory where learners are not only self-directed but also autonomous in their learning. Learners take control of their learning by setting their own learning goals, designing their learning paths, and evaluating their progress.

Q

Define “metacognition” and explain how it applies to truth seekers?

A

Metacognition refers to the awareness and understanding of one’s own thought processes, or in other words, “thinking about thinking”. It applies to truth seekers because metacognitive skills help them assess their own beliefs and biases, enabling them to question the validity of sources and arguments. It also allows truth seekrs to reflect on how they arrive at conclusions and whether their reasoning is sound. It also allows truth seekers to identify and work to fill gaps in their understanding, continuously refining their understanding of truth.

Q

What does it mean as a teacher “to lead from the known to the unknown”?

A

This is part of the Law of the Lesson. We learn new things through what is old and familiar. All teaching begins from some known point. If a subject is wholly new then a known point must be sought by showing some likeness of the new to something known or familiar. Until the starting point is found, it is useless to go on.
