Section III: Foundational Principles Flashcards

1
Q

Explain and illustrate how the Five Basic Truth Principles functions in the Three-fold Being of humankind circle.

A
  1. Everything begins with Spirit (“In the beginning, God…”). The Soul (Entire Mind) has its own structure: Superconscious Phase of Mind, Conscious Phase of Mind, and Subconscious Phase of Mind).
  2. Spirit exists within humankind as the Superconscious Phase of Mind (Christ Mind).
  3. Spirit/Superconscious makes Divine Ideas (Itself) available through the Conscious Phase of Mind. The Conscious Phase of Mind is PIVOTAL, as it can decide to:
    a. Turn inward for guidance from the Superconscious Phase of Mind (Spirit).
    b. Go outward to seek facts and information from the Race Consciousness (e.g. Collective Consciousness, Facts, All Positive/Negative Informaiton, Five Senses, Tradition, Family, Formal Education, Social Media, etc.)
    c. Relive memories or dwell on old habits and beliefs in the Subconscious Phase of Mind.
Note: The Subconscious Phase of Mind receiving inspiration directly from the Superconscious Phase of Mind is PURE (clear passage through the Conscious Phase of MInd). This yields an unadulterated God experience.
  4. What is accepted in the Conscious Phase of Mind is recorded in the Subconscious Phase of Mind.
Note: While the Subconscious Phase of Mind receives direction from the Conscious Phase of Mind, the Subconscious Phase of Mind CAN influence our thoughts and actions without conscious awareness that it is happening.
  5. What is stored in the Subconscious Phase of Mind can manifest in the Body of experiences; Life, Affairs and World (L.A.W.)

A

New Thought is a term used to cover a wide range of approaches to God, the world, to life and its seeming problems.

New Thought consists of four (4) phases:
1. PHILOSOPHICAL: The fundamental study of knowledge, reality, and existence.
2. THEOLOGICAL: The study of the nature of God.
3. PSYCHOLOGICAL: The study of the human mind and behavior.
4. PRACTICAL: Capable of being used in our everyday lives.

Q

What is the primary cause of suffering?

A

The primary cause of suffering is FORGETFULNESS of our divine nature as an OFFSPRING of God and as a spiritual being.

We have FORGOTTEN that as spiritual beings, we have DOMINION over our thoughts and feelings.

We have FORGOTTEN that it is not God’s will for us to suffer. Suffering does not turn us to God. Our desire to be FREE from suffering turns us to God.

Q

Can you run from adversity? Explain this concept.

A

No. Everything that is in our life had its BEGINNING in our MIND.
Adversity is the result of our wrong use of our thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions.
Therefore, wherever we go, we take our MIND (thoughts, attitudes, and feelings) with us.

You cannot run away from adversity, but you can change your WRONG BELIEFS about the condition.

Q

Explain the concept: There is only “One Power and One Presence” in the universe.

A

God is all there is - there is nothing else. Because God is All, there is no situation or condition in which God cannot be found.

Other bullet points: If we are involved in a situation that appears not good, good is there. So we must learn how to use the laws of life correctly to discern it.
God SUBSTANCE, God POWER, God LIFE, and God INTELLIGENCE are always waiting to be accepted by humankind.
God is in every situation or condition.

21
Q

Is there a difference between practicing the “present” and practicing the “Presence”?

A

Yes. Practicing the “present” involves focusing on the current moment, being aware of your surroundings, thoughts, and feelings without judgment. It is a concept associated with mindfulness practices. Its goal is to reduce stress, improve mental clarity and enhance overall well-being.

Practicing the “Presence” refers to the spiritual practice of seeking to experience the divine in our lives. The goal of practicing the presence is to carry this sense of our oneness with God into all aspects of life, deepening our spiritual connection and experiencing peace and purpose. Methods of practicing the presence include prayer, meditation, and the Silence.

22
Q

How does humankind become aware of their spiritual nature?

Sadness —- Joy and Happiness
Sickness/Illness —- Health and Wholeness
Hate —- Love
Limitation —- Infinite Possibilities

35
Q

Explain what is meant when we teach God is Divine Mind.

A

God is Divine Mind in which inhere all the divine ideas on which creation is based. It is the medium through which Principle functions: “The functioning of the principles of Being; Spirit in action… It is that which, through orderly processes, produces things.” (Page 56, Revealing Word)

Divine Mind is God Mind; ever-present, all-knowing Mind; the Absolute, the unlimited. Omnipresent, all-wise, all-loving, all-powerful Spirit. There is but one Mind, and that Mind cannot be separated or divided, because, like the principle of mathematics, it is indivisible. All that we can say of the one Mind is that it is absolute and that all its manifestations are in essence like itself. (The Revealing Word, p. 56)

Divine Mind is the realm of all Divine Ideas. Divine Mind encompasses the Truth that It is the Source from which all intelligence and everything else is derived. Since Divine Mind is the capacity or ability to know, we refer to God as Omniscience rather than Omniscient.

36
Q

IS UFBL or JCTS a Divine Idea?

A

NO. Divine Ideas come out of the INVISIBILE; aspects and qualities of God.
a. What is VISIBLE in the PHYSICAL world is NOT a Divine Idea.
b. What is VISIBLE is a MANIFESTATION of a Divine Idea.

Divine Ideas are eternal, invisible and Absolute (e.g. Faith, Love, Strength, Wisdom, Power, Imagination, Understanding, Will, Order, Zeal, Elimination, Life, and more).
UFBL and JCTS (and others) are limited, observable, relative.

37
Q

Explain personality.

A

People see us through our personality. Personality is the sum total of all our former THINKING.

Personality is from the Greek word “persona” which was a mask worn by actors in the amphitheater. An actor would change the mask according to the play and their part in it.

Personality is limited, changeable, that which exists, human, adverse ego.

38
Q

Explain Individuality.

A

Individuality is our spiritual identity.
1. It is the CREATIVE POWER of God invested in you.
2. It is not WHO I am but WHAT I AM.
3. It is indivisible; ONENESS.

Individuality is: unlimited and eternal, unchanging, that which is real, Spirit, Christ Self (within).

Source: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sD6BM7zZFAqUg7-VFa0p63Ut5c5zGbqG/view?usp=sharing, pg. 16

39
Q

Explain the difference between individuality and personality.

A

We say that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Personality applies to the human part of you - the person, the external. It belongs to the region governed by the intellect. Your personality may be agreeable or disagreeable to others. When you say that you dislike anyone, you mean that you dislike the personality– the exterior something that presents itself from the outside. It is the outer, changeable person, contrary to the inner or real person.

Whereas personality is like a mask, Indivisuality is like the actor.
Personality is LIMITED, CHANGEABLE, THAT WHICH EXISTS, HUMAN, ADVERSE EGO.
Individuality is UNLIMITED AND ETERNAL, UNCHANGING, THAT WHICH IS REAL, SPIRIT, CHRIST SELF (within).

Individuality is the term used to denote the real person. The more God becomes visible through a person, the more individualized they become. By this, I do not mean that one’s individuality is greater when one is more religious. Remember, God is wisdom, intelligence, love, power. The more pronounced the manner in which any one of these qualities, or all of them, comes forth into visibility through a person, the greater their individuality.

Source: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sD6BM7zZFAqUg7-VFa0p63Ut5c5zGbqG/view?usp=sharing, pg. 15-17

40
Q

How do personality and individuality work together?

A

As we let our real self - our Individuality - express itself, we are a more creative, confident, loving.

Personality, rightly understood, is God expression on this (physical) plane. Your individuality is your spiritual identity, but this has to be expressed on the physical plane, and that expression is seen as personality. When the expression is clear and logical, we get a brilliant and well-balanced personality, which means true success in life.

42
Q

We teach there is “One Mind”. Why does there appear to be many minds?

A

There appear to be many “minds” because:
1. Each individual has CONSCIOUSNESS in the One Mind.
2. That CONSCIOUSNESS is determined by the kind of thoughts, feelings, words, actions, and reactions the individual has.
3. Humankind uses this One Mind according to their LEVEL of UNDERSTANDING.
(Bible Scriptures: Ephesians 4:4)
