Section IV – Automatic Flight Flashcards

1
Q

1.What are the AFDS Autothrottle modes available for selection on the FMA?
2.What additional modes would you have on a ADV PFD ?

A

1.SPD, IDLE, N1, THR HOLD, FL CH, GA, TEST, AT

2.
• FLAP LIM
• ALPHA
• SPD LIM
Mode is operating with angle of attack (alpha) or airspeed limit. Limit mode
annunciation replaces engaged mode annunciation

Q

How is normal autopilot disengagement accomplished?

A

Normal autopilot disengagement is through either control wheel autopilot disengage switch. The autopilots can also be disengaged by the MCP autopilot disengage bar. Also, utilizing the trim switch (single autopilot) will cause it to disconnect.

Q

When switching the flight director to OFF, and then back to ON while in flight, what indications on the Flight Mode Annunciator will be present?

A

In flight, observe flight director command and flight mode annunciations to display vertical speed (V/S) and heading hold (HDG HOLD) or attitude (ATT) if no autopilot in command (CMD). If any autopilot is in command, expect the FMA to display existing autopilot modes.

Q

When does ROLLOUT mode arm and when does it activate ?

A

ROLLOUT (armed) – displays below 1500 feet radio altitude and

• ROLLOUT (active) – activates below 5 feet. after touchdown, AFDS uses rudder and
nosewheel steering to steer the airplane on the localizer centerline.

Q

1.When VNAV SPD is active how does it work ?
2.If approach ask for best climb to 15,000 and you have just activated VNAV how can you adjust speed without exiting VNAV ?

A

1.The AFDS maintains the FMC speed displayed on the FMA and/or the CDU CLIMB or DESCENT pages.
2.During speed
intervention, use the MCP IAS/MACH selector to manually set the speed

Q

When AFDS is engaged with VNAV PTH how does it maintain altitude or descent ?

A

The AFDS maintains FMC altitude or descent
path with pitch commands.

17
Q

When does FLARE mode arm and when does it activate ?

A

Arms: During autoland, FLARE displays below 1500 feet radio altitude

Active: during autoland, flare activates at 50 feet radio altitude

Deactivates : at touchdown and the nose wheel smoothly lowers to the runway

18
Q

TMSP Thrust Mode Select Panel provides the selection of which thrust reference modes ?

A

TO, GA, CLB, CON, CRZ and D-TO
