7
Q

What is the rich position on the fuel control switch for ?

A

This position is used for fuel enrichment during cold engine starts, when the EGT temperature indicates 0 degrees or less. After engine start, the pilots place the switch to run. Once the engine reaches idle, fuel flow is unaffected by switch position. RICH adds 100 PPH fuel flow for start

16
Q

What’s powered by the left hydraulic system ?

A

The landing gear, alternate brakes, and nose wheel steering, Left engine reverser, HMG if equipped are powered by the LEFT hydraulic system

17
Q

How is the 757 gear uplock powered ?

A

The 757 gear uplock is electrically powered by the hot battery bus. If the battery is the sole source of electrical power, the gear should be lowered within 30-90 minutes

18
Q

Does the 757 have RESERVE nose wheel steering like the 767 ?

A

The 757 does not have reserve nose wheel steering. Aerodynamic rudder control, differential thrust, and differential braking are used under these circumstances

19
Q

What systems do not require bleed air on the 757 unlike the 767 ?

A

•Thrust Reversers
•Air Driven Pumps
•Cargo Compartment Heating

20
Q

A SMOKE light illuminates on the overhead panel. What will the system do ?

A

Smoke is detected in the forward equipment cooling ducts the Forward E/E system automatically reconfigures to vent the smoke overboard.

21
Q

If you press the EQUIP COOLING alternate switch what will happen ?

A

Activates the alternate supply fan in the forward equipment cooling system.

22
Q

EQUIP COOLING OVHT light illuminates on the overhead panel what does it mean ?

A

Low air flow detected in the forward equipment cooling system on the ground (sounds intermittent horn in nose gear).
• Selected forward equipment cooling supply fan has failed.
• Overboard exhaust valve did not open when left
recirculation fan stopped.
• Both aft E/E fans are inoperative.
• Smoke has been detected in the forward equipment cooling system for more than 5 minutes.

23
Q

What provides back up power to the left hydraulic system ?

A

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) provides a source of back-up power to the Left (Primary) Hydraulic system.

24
Q

When would the PTU activate ?

A

The Left Engine Fails

The Left Engine-Driven Pump pressure is sensed low

Note : The PTU uses Hydraulic Pressure from the RIGHT Engine-Driven Pump to power a Hydraulic Motor which in turn drives a Hydraulic Pump in the LEFT Hydraulic system.

25
Q

Cost index for the 757

A

55
