Three main components of the costume design
All wear the same, Shades of blue, Design and fit of the clothing
What do the dancers wear
A short sleeved, blue t-shirt with stonewashed blue jeans and hi-top trainers. All relatively loose fitting. They can wear their own jewellery
What does all of them wearing the same show
It creates a sense of order as it all looks the exact same but also a sense of unity and equality between all male and female dancers
What do the shades of blue show
Support the lighting to create an overall unified performance that is ordered. Also creates a sad atmosphere reflecting the sad times on an emotional journey
What does the design and fit of the clothes show
The costume is comfortable, relaxed and loose allowing for a big freedom of movement so that they can express themselves how they like

It shows a freedom of expression as they are able to wear something unique to them

It shows the emotional journey and breaking barriers to a happier and brighter time of their life

It creates an intimate and enclosed atmosphere like being inside of a womb in Genesis, linking to birth and an emotional journey of life.
What does the empty set show
Creates little distraction for the audience and dancers to allow them to freely express themselves completely without being restricted
Four main components of the lighting design
Blue wash/lighting, White sidelight DSR, Intense striking effect, Lighting changes
What does the blue lighting show
Compliments the costume to create an enhanced mood of sadness linking to an emotional journey
What does the white sidelight DSR show
Enhances the scrum formation and the solo dancer reaching forward towards it to show he is trying to get something and grow linking to the emotional journey
What does the intense striking effect show
Creates an extremely chaotic atmosphere linking to the ‘Order and chaos’. It is dramatic and hard to look at for the audience. Aswell as this it could show a dramatic change in your journey
What does the lighting changes show
It shows the idea of the emotional journey and how life is constantly changing
Three main components of the aural setting a
Heavy urban drum beats, music changes, fluid dynamics of the violin
What do the heavy urban drum beats show
They replicate the sound of a heartbeat which is dramatic and creates this idea of life and the beginning of your journey
What does the music changing show
It shows how when life constantly changes, your mood and emotions change which is show in the music. This links to the idea of an emotional journey with ups and downs
What do the fluid dynamics of the violins show
It is used in the classical section and the sound of them feels like they are submerged in water of the fluid in the womb. This creates a soothing sounds and suggest the start of your emotional journey

The music constantly layering reflects the different experiences you have in life that constantly grow as you get older, linking to the emotional journey
Name a relationship used
Counterpoint, in Empowerment when different groups of dancers do different things including ninja walks and elbow jabs. The difference shows chaos and the same shows order
Name an action used
The pointing of central dancer onto the dancers squirming on the floor showing order and chaos as her strong points are controlling and ordered while they are chaotic
Name a dynamic used
The jerky dynamic of the central male dancers arm reaches whilst being held back by a large group in G+S. Shows chaos as it is sporadic and helps advices see chaos has struck the stage
Name a spatial design used
The size of the male and female dancers small waving actions in C+F showing they are keeping their movements in close. Helps show they are reflecting on their emotions from within

Repetition, Unison, Manipulation of number, Climax
When is repetition used and why
When the dancers have their finger pointing at the ceiling and body pulse and the continuity of this highlights the constant struggles in life as if something is constantly holding them back
When is unison used and why
When the dancers perform the ninja walk in a large group in a cube formation. This shows order as they are all uniform to the audience. Helps build energy showing they are coming towards at the end
When is manipulation of number used and why
Only two dancers perform in C+F so we can see their waving actions back and forth. Only two dancers changes the energy to a calmer mood and shows their freedom of expression. Allows audience to focus on their free hip hop movements
When is climax used and why
In Empowerment, lots of different things happening which is chaotic but also shows they are completely free in their journey
When is contrast used and why
Between Genesis which is more contemporary and fresh to Empowerment which is chaotic with big hip hop movements showing the end of the journey
Four main components of the use of number and gender
Gender all wearing the same, Number increasing from beginning and end, Number of all dancers performing freestyle, Number of dancers in the scrum holding one dancer back
What does all genders wearing the same thing show
Creates a sense of order and unity as it is all identical. Allows the audience to see it as one big group rather than individuals as they are all going on their journey together
What does the number of dancers increasing at the beginning and end show
It shows that the number of people you meet on your emotional journey through life increase as you grow older and have more experience and relationships
What does the number of dancers all free-styling show
Shows a clear freedom of expression more than if there was only 1 dancer as the large amount all doing their own thing. indicate they all have their own freedom
What does the number of dancers in the scrum holding the one dancer back show
Create this idea of an emotional journey where lots of people can hold you back on your emotional journey through life but it is only you that is important

How is exploring hip hope movement in a contemporary way used
During Genesis when dancers wriggle and squirm on the floor whilst central dancer does hip hop moves. The squirming improvisation is a very contemporary style showing a collaboration of styles just like collaborating with o people on your emotional journey
How is musicality and the relationship between movement and music used and why
A steady throbbing pulse under a slow drum links to the idea of a heartbeat like the beginning of life and an emotional journey

During C+F, dancers perform waving actions in correlation with the music of the cascading violins. This shows an emotional journey as energy flows through the dancers and the music which shows a journey through.

Displayed in empowerment, when music builds in power and intensity from the slow piano to aggressive drum. Music and movement work to show strength of the dancers as they have come to the end of their journey

Episodic, Narrative, Logical sequence, Transitions
How is an episodic structure shown and why
Dance is broken down into 4 sections going from birth to being free and each one shows the emotional journey between these two
How is a narrative structure shown and why
The storyline is broken into 4 sections all based on the same idea and the narrative is suggested through the performance. The emotional journey is told through mini episodes telling the overall narrative.
How is a logical sequence shown and why
The sections go in order form birth, journey, connection and freedom helping audience follow narrative and journey the dancers go on easily
How are transitions shown and why
C+F, waving duet comes to an end and a large number of dancers transition on in different sized groups. They then all do different content showing freedom of expression. The smooth transitions allow audience to stay focused on their expressions
