(Creating a phrase restricted by a square) used in square lighting grid and is the driving force for the ensemble work. It conveys a sense of fun and celebration. There are some large group sections where dancers are on a very clear formations and lines giving a sense of samba parades

A

When the square lighting grid was created as it is a driving force for ensemble group work. Dictates where to move in the space by the change of lights, like the lights are pulling dancers into their next space for the next set of movements just like a carnival always moving forward

Section 1/ Opening is big (high of the curve) which then drops to the bottom of the curve in Section 2 (slow adage). It then builds up to Section 7 which is the climax of the dance

A

Dancers interact with the lights to define the structure. The lines are quite regimented but always changing. It determines where the dancers move and moves along like this carnival moving

The space opens out and lighting grid disappears for men showing off section. It now becomes more narrative and interactive and opens up the space for new scenes to play out
