When are rationales used?
In cases where the characteristics of a decision are not obviously evident they are written. They are needed in all decisions though
What is the purpose of a rationale?
To support a decision or action, avoid a misunderstanding and demonstrate due diligence and clearly explain intent to be understood and implemented
When is a rationale complete?
When along with the decision it is sufficient to meet the intended objectives
A few things to be included in a quality rationale
Reasonable verifiable and measurable outcomes, risk and risk management, oredictions, history, science and policy, lack technical jargon, ojbective
What are the two things that can require rationales?
Commitments and decisions
Difference between result and strategy
Result is measuable or verifiable outcome, strategy is measurable or verifiable steps
What is measuable?
Physical set of components that can be counted or described. Numberic
What is verifiable?
Being able to establish truth, accuracy or reality of existence. Must be verified (outcome is the right thing or indicator) and verified if achieved.
What is due diligence?
Taking all necessary steps tonensure those who question work see all appropriate factors considered and steps taken in professional manner- and also keeping files and documents etc
