What is a Temporary Event Notice? (TEN)
Notification of an event which will include a licensable activity, and which will take place at a venue not covered by a premises licence or club premises certificate which permits that activity
To hold a temporary event, a notice must be given to which 3 bodies?
- The licensing authority
- The police
- Environmental Health
What 2 things can a TEN be used for?
- Temporarily add or extend licensable activities on premises that have a premises licence or club premises certificate
- Temporarily allow one or more licensable activities in premises with no licence
Is authorisation required for a TEN?
No, unless there is an objection
Should the police and/or Environmental Health believe the event would undermine any of the licensing objectives, how long do they have to object to the TEN?

What are the eight rules of TENs?
- They must be given by someone over the age of 18
- No more than 499 people can attend at any one time
- An event can last for a maximum of 168 hours
- The total duration of periods covered by a notice in respect of the same premises can be no more than 21 days
- There is a minimum period of 24 hours between events at the same premises when given by the same user or associate
- Only 12 TENs per year can take place at the same premises
- A non PLH is allowed to give up to 5 TENs per year where the number of late TENs does not exceed 2
- A PLH is allowed to give up to 50 TENs per year where the number of late TENs does not exceed 10
