What are goals to Teaching?
- To demonstrate understanding of mechanics.
- To demonstrate ability to teach, which is to relay information efficiently and effectively.
Teaching is successfully when?
The students level of understanding is clear in theory;
And demonstrated success fully by performance.
What are 3 effective Teaching Tatics?
- Pairs/Partners
- PPL - Praise, Prompt, Leave
- VIP - Visual Instruction Plan
Why use PPL?
- Allows instructor to move QUICKLY in large groups
- Allows instructor to give FREQUENT POSITIVE feedback
- Helps embed in teacher and student the idea of SEQUENTIAL learning (instrustor needs to find first error)
- This minimizes the negative and focuses on the positive
- Helps reinforce the idea of SIMPLICITY , correct one error at a time.
What is the VIP method of teaching?
The Visual Instructional Plan is a step-by-step sequential summary of the skill being learned.
How many steps are in the 4 hr. structured Lesson plan?
3
What are the steps in the 4 hr. structured lesson plan?
- Setting the stage
- Acquisition
- Consolidation

What is the most important part of the 4 hr. structured lesson plan?
Structured Practice
What is the object of the Structured Practice in the 4 hr structured lesson plan?
To eliminate faults as we build the skill.
What is benefits of Pairs/Partners?
Using pairs/partners creates more:
(Rare!)
Repetitions,
Active engagement,
Reflection
Emotions
What is the PPL process?
- When see error, relax - pause
- Take 2nd look at work, ask “what is right so far”
- Choose best two features of correct performance to be springboard to correct method
- Describe these two features in a simple sentence
- In 1or 2 sentences, describe what you want student to do….
Why use VIP?
- In group lessons, this allows teachers to use PPL better
- VIP allows students a be more self-sufficient
- At home student more likely to practice if the have VIP.
In structured lesson plan, how much for each part?
Setting stage - 10%
Acquisition - 60%
Consolidation - 30%
