Section 3, Tasks 1 - 15 Flashcards
The first set of tasks 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8 are all about what?
Loops and false casting.
- PULD w/ 6 false casts
- 40’ w/ wide loops
- 40’ w/ tailing loops
- 40’ aerial mending waves
- 40’ slow-med-fast cast
All casts in the test require?
5 parts
- Lift
- Back cast
- PAUSE
- Forward cast
- Delivery or “presentation”
Also need to focus on:
Good initial backcasts
good loops
good tracking
appropriate trajectory during false cast
What are steps to master the initial Pick UP skill?
There are two parts (backcast and forward cast) broken down into 5 parts (lift, backcast, forward cast and delivery or laydown).
- Begin with rod tip low - take excess slack out, but leave correct amt of line out.
- Lift with proper force (acceleration) to create proper tension (not too much, not too little)
Too much tension throws flyline in air;
Too little line will sag creating excess slack - Backcast
- Forward cast
- Laydown - delivery
What are causes of Tailing Loops
Tailing loops are the result of a Concave rod tip path caused by an:
Abrupt application of force
Insufficient casting arc for amount of rod bend(load)
Insufficient casting arc caused by “creep”
What are key terms of a Roll-cast
Anchor
Anchor point
D-Loop
Static
180 degree rule
In a roll-cast what is the “Anchor”?
The portion of the fly line and/or leader that contacts water when forming the D-Loop.
In a roll-cast what is the “Anchor point”?
The position where the anchor contacts the water.
In a roll-cast what is the “D-Loop”?
A round shaped back loop of line between the rod tip and the anchor point.
In a roll-cast what is “Static”?
Not moving.
In a roll-cast what is the “180 degree rule”?
When the target, anchor and D-Loop are aligned with the forward cast.
How to start each Task?
Rod tip on ground with
All slack removed and;
Line straight and neat laid out in front of you.
Task 15, what should final casts casting arc in degrees be?
120 degress - 10:00 to 2:00.
