What must you consider the section to be when performing S3R1?
Can you assume the signal is defective?
Must consider the section ahead to be:
*Occupied
*Obstructed
*Damaged
Never assume the signal is defective, always be prepared to stop
A driver is permitted to authorise themselves past a Automatic Signal at danger as long as:

*To the best of their knowledge the track section is not obstructed or occupied
* The train is free from defects that could cause extended braking distances
*Visibility is suitable
What should the driver consider before S3R1?
(Things that could make it unsafe)
*The braking ability of the train including the gradient of the track ahead
*Defective or isolated equipment
*Extremely bad weather conditions
*Poor/restricted visibility (rain, fog, damaged windscreen, sun-glare)
Can you perform R3S1 if you don’t have FULL control over your train?
What must be done if it is not safe to perform S3R1?
NO
Advise the Train Controller that you will not be proceeding and the reason why
What is the process for performing S3R1?
*Make a PA announcement
*Call the recorded radio number and leave a message
*Proceed at extreme caution until the WHOLE TRAIN has passed the next fixed signal at proceed
*Submit an incident report
If a call is made to the recorded radio number and the Signal clears, what must be done?
State “signal cleared”
If call terminated, call number again and state “signal cleared”
What information needs to be provided to the recorded radio number?
*Name
*Motor Car number
*Signal number
*TDN
What is Extreme Caution defined as?
*Being able to stop the train in half the distance that can be seen ahead
*Not exceeding 25km/h or track speed if it is less
*Be prepared to find the section OCCUPIED, OBSTRUCTED or DAMAGED
When can normal speed be resumed after performing S3R1?
After the ENTIRE TRAIN has passed the next fixed signal at proceed
What must be done if a driver received a call, a PEI or has to perform another function while performing S3R1?
Must stop immediately and answer call
There must be no distraction while performing S3R1
What must the driver do if another train is observed?
Stop and ascertain if it is on the same line
If it isn’t, proceed
If it is, follow at a safe distance when the train proceeds
