Section 26 OBJ 5.5: Troubleshooting Mobile Devices Flashcards
Mobile power issues
Poor battery health: Batteries degrade over time and don’t last as long as they used to
Charging issues: Improper charging routines shorten battery life. It is best practice to avoid fully charging and discharging it. Charging speed can also degrade battery life.
If the battery is not taking a charge, it could be a problem in the adapter, if not you may need to replace the battery or charging port
Swollen batteries: A swollen battery indicates a fault with the battery and could be dangerous. It is caused by overcharging and requires the battery to be replaced/repaired by the manufacturer.
Mobile hardware issues
Overheating damage: Most common in laptops when there is insufficient air flow. Can also happen to tablets and mobile devices when they are left in their car.
Liquid damage: When you suspect liquid damage, dry off excess liquid, power off the device, disassemble the device, clean the circuit boards and contacts with alcohol, and replace the battery
Physical port damage: the only way to fix physical port damage is to replace it.
Mobile Display Issues
Broken screens: display glass is prone to cracking, no matter the hardness. You must find out which part of the screen is broken, whether its the glass, digitizer, screen, or backlight.
Dim issues: usually indicates a backlight issue. Could be a backlight or inverter issue in a CCFL (for older devices)
Digitizer issues: digitizers usually fail from physical or liquid damage. It can also be an issue with the screen protector, a software issue, or a hardware issue.
Calibration issues: to troubleshoot a cursor issue, check the touch pad sensitivity and observe the issue.
Mobile connectivity issues
Physical issues: consider interference, signal-noise ratio (RSSI)
Software configuration issues: consider the drivers for the NIC and configuration settings
Wireless issues:
Check if the SSID is correct, as well as the password
Move closer to the wireless access point
Put the higher gain antenna on
Bluetooth issues: ensure these
Bluetooth enabled
Properly paired
Adequate charge
Proper range
Make sure airplane mode isn’t on
Mobile malware infections
Most common cause is phishing.
Indications of malware include an antivirus software diagnosis, high power drain, significant data transmission, camera and microphone is on, and applications asking for additional permissions.
If malware is found:
Backup user data
Fully reformat the device
