Section 16: Mobile Devices Flashcards
OBJ 1.2, 1.3, 1.4
Mobile Device
Any device that makes it portable and easy to use
Capacitive Touch Screen
Any touchscreen that works by seeing the distortion in an electrostatic field
Cheaper and only allows one touch
Multi-Touch Screen
can process two or more contact points at the same time
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Uses liquid crystal where the properties can change with the application of voltage
a thin-film transistor (TFT) is found inside
Twisted Nematic (TN)
contains crystals that twist or untwist in response to the voltage being applied or removed
fast response times compared to other TFT technologies
In-Plane Switching (IPS)
Uses crystals that rotate to be able to deliver color
provides better colors at different viewing angles
Vertical Alignment (VA)
Crystals are tilted to be able to deliver color
Has a contrast ratio 2-3x better than IPS
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL)
Lamp that sits behind the display and lights up the liquid crystal display to show the colors and images properly on the screen
Light-Emitting Diode (LED)
Newer form of light that uses direct current (DC)
less power, longer battery, better performance
Organic LED (OLED)
Each pixel has its own separate LED that provides the light
Digitizer
Converts tactile input into a digital signal that can be understood by the operating system
Layer sandwiched between a layer of protective glass and a display panel inside of a touchscreen display
Accelerometer
Combination device that uses hardware and software to measure the velocity, rotation, and shaking of a mobile device
can only measure x and y axis
Gyroscope
an improved version of the accelerometer
Detects roll, pitch and yaw (x, y, z)
performs actions
stabilizes images
Track Pad
device to manipulate the cursor on the screen
Drawing Pad
large format touch device, commonly used by artists
needs to use a touch pen
Microphone
any device used to record audio or capture voice
Speaker
allows us to hear things coming out of our devices
Headset
combines the microphone and speaker
Digital Camera
provides the ability to capture a live image in a still format
Wi-Fi (Wireless networking
comes in different types, including wireless a, b, g, n, ac, and ax
Cellular
Network that allows to connect to the Internet using cellular radio inside the handset and connect to a network service provider
Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM)
cellular technology that takes the voice during a call and converts it into a digital format
SIM card
Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
Cellular technology that uses code division to split up the channel
More powerful and flexible than GSM
Electronic code instead of SIM card
Preferred Roaming List (PRL)
contains all the information about different cellular towers that your service provider is going to support
Bluetooth
Used as a short range point to point network connection between a mobile device and an accessory
Near Frequency Communication (NFC)
allows a device to send and receive information in the NFC format
Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter (UART)
Device that allows to connect to a device and get information from it
Port Replicator
Port Mirror
Attaches to a laptop and allows you to replicate different ports
Uses the exact same features as a laptop
Docking station
Additional Ports
Advanced type of port replicator that provides all the capabilities and features of a laptop, and new features as well
