What does MAC stand for?
Media Access Control

What is the first section of the MAC address called?
OUI: Organizationally Unique Identifier/Manufacturer’s ID
What is the second section of the MAC address called?
NICS: Network Interface Controller-Specific/Serial number

The network hears the collision, waits a random amount of time and tries again

Similar to DNS and NAT, it translates between IP and MAC addresses
What does VLAN stand for?
Virtual Local Area Network
What’s the purpose of VLAN?
to divide up a single switch for multiple LANs
What is a VLAN trunk?
A VLAN trunk allows you to connect the VLANs of one switch to another’s using a single connection
How does data on a VLAN trunk know where to go?
Data that enters a VLAN trunk is tagged so it knows where to go at its destination
What prevent data from looping endlessly in Layer 3?
Time To Live/TTL
