Section 13: Electrical Infrastructure Flashcards
Workers in the vicinity of exposed electrical equipment and wires in the rail corridor must
keep or be kept at safe distances
unless they are told by an Electrical Representative that the wires are not live, untrained workers must treat as live
electrical equipment, fallen electrical wires and vehicles, equipment or objects in contact with wires or fallen wires
The “overhead” 1500V supply must be removed only in accordance with
the requirements specified in the Maintenance Representative’s Electrical Safety Instructions
Electrical Infrastructure includes
High and low voltage conductors and electrical equipment on poles, 1500V overhead wiring and associated equipment, Electrical conductors burying in the ground or carried in above-ground troughs, low voltage electrical switch rooms and substations
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring working near electrical equipment
Unless authorised in accordance with the requirements specified in the Maintenance Representative Electrical Safety Instructions, workers must not climb on top of rail vehicles on an electrified track
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring Underground services
before the whereabouts of buried services and underground cables are known, workers must not dig, break the ground or drive anything into the ground
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring Contact with overhead wiring
treat fallen electrical wires, infrastructure, vehicles and objects in contact with fallen wires, as live until the Electrical Representative says it is safe
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring Objects in contact with overhead wiring
treat objects caught in or touching overhead wiring as live. Only Electrical Representatives may remove these objects
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring Work above electrical equipment
Workers must take special precautions when working above electrical equipment, including the 1500V wiring. Workers must not cause water or debris to fall onto wiring
The procedure for safety with electrical wiring Fires near 1500V overhead wiring
The train controller must be told. And if necessry, they arrange for the Electrical System Operator to remove supply in the affected electrical wiring sections and tell the local fire service
Workers who see or suspect faults, fallen wires or fires in the electrical infrastructure must
immediately tell the NCO and they must tell the Electrical Systems Operator
When there is electrical faults, the NCO must
place signals at stop to prevent trains from entering the isolated 1500V overhead wiring sections, apply blocking facilities, tell train crew and other affected parties about the overhead wiring sections from which the 1500V supply has been removed and ensure that protection has been applied to prevent entry by way of unsignalled routes
