SECTION 1 Flashcards
Name and describe 5 types of production tasks that Pro Tools can be used for.
Audio Processing
MIDI Production
Notation and Scores
Mixing and Automation
Audio for Video & Post Production
What is the frequency range of human hearing?
20hZ to 20kHz
What does the frequency of a sound wave effect in terms of how we perceive a sound? How is this frequency measured?
The frequency of a sound defines it’s perceived pitch. This is measured in hZ and kHz.
What does the amplitude of a sound wave effect? How is this measured?
The amplitude of a sound defines its perceived volume. This is measured in decibels.
How does the sample rate of a system relate to the frequency of the audio it can capture?
What is the name of the law that specifies the relationship between sample rate and audio frequency?
The sample rate is the frequency with which digital measurements of an electrical signal are recorded - the higher the sample rate, the better quality the capture.
Sampling Theorem / Nyquist Theorem
How does the bit depth of a system relate to the dynamic range of the audio it can capture?
How can you estimate the dynamic range of a system?
Bit depth is the number of binary digits used to record each sample. Higher bit depths allow for more dynamic range.
Multiply by 6.
What are some common digital connections available on Pro Tools audio interfaces?
S/PDIF - RCA
AES/EBU - XLR
MADI - Optical
MADI - Coaxial
Name some audio interfaces compatible with standard Pro Tools software?
Any audio interface that supports Core Audio or ASIO drivers will work. Some examples of these below:
RME
MOTU
FOCUSRITE
UAD
Name some Avid interfaces that are compatible with Pro Tools Ultimate:
PRO TOOLS | HD OMNI
PRO TOOLS | HD I/O
PRO TOOLS | HD MADI
PRO TOOLS | HD MTRX
PRO TOOLS | HD MTRX Studio
