Section 0- Process Of Science Flashcards
4 major categories of science
Physics biology chemistry earth science
The process of gaining knowledge
Science
What is physics
The study of matter and energy
What is biology
The study of life
What is chemistry
Composition and structure of matter
What is Earth science
Study of the earth “also space”
What is the reason for science
Knowledge increases our chance of survival
5 step scientific method
- Question or problem
- Hypothesis
- Experimentation
- Recording collecting and analyzing data
- Conclusion
What is the difference between dependent variable and independent variable
Dependent is what is being measured (hair growth)
Independent is the thing that can change the difference between the two groups
What will you do if your scientific method does or doesn’t work?
If it works you will have to repeat it, a well excepted theory will become a theory
If it doesn’t work you need to make a new experiment or hypothesis
Reasons for errors in the scientific method
- Invention of new equipment shows mistakes in older ideas
- Data is poorly interpreted “human bias”
- Contamination of data during the experimental stage
- We live on a changing planted and there for the science changed constantly
Length=
Volume=
Temperature=
Mass=
Length=metres (m)
Volume=litre (L)
Temperature=degrees Celsius (‘c)
Mass= grams (g)
What interment would you use to measure.. Temperature Volume Length Mass
Temperature=thermometer
Volume=graduated cylinders
Length=ruler or measuring tape
Mass=triple beam balance
What is the order to turn cm to m etc
M c d <> da h k
Graphing what do you need
Clearly label x and y axis, label each side and make a title
