What is keloid?
benign excess of scar tissue beyond site of original injury, looks smooth, rubbery, shiny, feels smooth & firm
What is lichenification?
caused by prolonged & intense scratching, thickens skin & tightly packed set of papules
What is atrophic scar?
Depressed w/loss of tissue, thinning of epidermis
What is a scar?
Normal tissue is lost, replaced w/collagen, permanent fibrotic change
ex. healed area of surgery
What is excoriation?
Self-inflicted abrasion, superficial, sometimes crusted, caused by intense itching
What is an ulcer?
Deeper depression into dermis, irregular shape
ex. pressure ulcer
What is a erosion?
Scooped out, shallow depression, epidermis lost, heals w/out scar b/c doesn’t get to dermis
What is a fissure?
Linear crack w/abrupt edges, extends into dermis, dry or moist
What is scale?
Compact, descciated flakes of skin, dry or greasy, slivery or white
ex. eczema
What is a crust?
Thickened, dried-out, exudate left when vesicles/pustules burst
color: red-brown, honey, yellow
